We Care About Your “Fillings”!
Did your child have recent dental treatment?
Did they have white (composite) fillings placed on their teeth?
Did they have stainless steel crowns placed on their teeth?
Our goal as dentists is to make sure that the best care is provided to your child when performing the dental treatment. However, it is essential that at-home care is regularly performed to maintain these treatments in good shape. Read below to review some tips on maintaining the fillings and crowns that may have been done for your child!
- Regular brushing and flossing should be performed, especially well in the areas of treatment
- A soft diet is recommended for at least 2 days following the treatment appointment, especially for larger fillings and crowns placed
- Avoiding gums, gummies, sticky and hard candies such as Jolly Ranchers, Tootsie Rolls, Caramel cubes, Starbursts, is strongly recommended
- Brushing down to the gums is even more important when crowns are placed, as that is where most food/plaque will collect
- If WHITE fillings are performed on the front teeth, be careful when biting into hard foods, such as apples, carrots, and nuts, as this may result in fracture of these fillings and/or teeth
- Routine dental check-ups and cleanings will allow for evaluation and cleaning of these treated teeth, and if something does not look right, it will be caught before your child experiences pain or an infection
The purpose of dental treatment is to keep your child from having dental pain or dental infections, but also to save these teeth until adult teeth come in their place. Routine dental check-ups and care will monitor these treated teeth to make sure that we reach these goals and keep our little ones out of pain and healthy!
